aspilicious commentedI don't understand what has to happen here?

dawehnerWell, everytime a display is created you end up with adding the extender objects to all of them.

dawehnerFrom the current design we have to create one display extender for each active display,
because we store a reference to the display it's attached to.
One way to reduce the amount of display extenders would be to force people to use $this->view->display_handler (so the current active display)
which would allow us to create display extenders just once per view.
Regarding the loading we could put this information directly into state/maybe also the container?

malcolm_p commentedI was able to work around this a bit by explicitly the default display settings in my display_extender from views preprocess functions but getting display_extender options to work like other plugins would be ideal.
The issue as I see it is that there are no options->defaults['display_extenders']['my_display_extender'] and the displayHandler->getOption($opt) function doesn't work for display_extenders to get options when the display is defaulted.

smustgrave commentedThank you for creating this issue to improve Drupal.
We are working to decide if this task is still relevant to a currently supported version of Drupal. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or is no longer relevant. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.
Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.
Thanks!

longwaveIn practice this doesn't seem to have been a problem, most sites do not have that many display extenders available anyway. Let's just close this out, if there is a specific problem then we can open a new issue with detail.
