Inventory - Local Solution

Hello,

I'm looking for a module(s) to meet the inventory needs for the IT Department. I've tried searching for the solution before posting this question. I came across two modules that caught my interest. Maybe because of a lack of understanding of the modules I can't seem to figure out what would meet my needs the best.

Issues/Needs:
- People using - The IT Department
- Site will be on the Local Intranet
- Need a way to keep inventory, but also need to have the ability to be very customizable.
- Planning on inventorying software and hardware at first, from there possible consumables.

Software and field categories (just a few to give examples of what we want to do):
Software Company, Software Title, Category, Install Instructions, License information (number of users, loaner disc(yes or no), take home (yes or no), license start date/end date, network version (yes or no), physical location in the software library, software location on the network, win7 compatible (yes or no), etc. That's just a few parts of the information we would like to include with each piece of software. So, I'm looking for a very flexible module.

Hardware ideas:
Model, Brand, Type (Notebook, Desktop, Tablet, etc), location (Building, Room, etc) would also like to create a interactive map to go with this later on for placement in the rooms, warranty information, PO info, etc.

I would like to create a one stop site for the IT Department to use for all the info. I would also need to be able to lock it down enough so students can't access the info either if they come across the site. I work for a school district. Any information on this would be grateful. If there isn't anything out there like this, please let me know and I might have to look into programing a module or something myself. I originally started programming something from scratch PHP5 for this purpose and found out about Drupal. Having a core already made makes things a little easier. :)
