I created a primary link and I want to link it to /user in the path. But it does not allow me to do this -- it does allow something like "http://babbalhost/user", however I have to configure this from dev env to prod env, not very nice. Could anybody help on this?

There is a bug or something related to this. There's a menu item in Navigation, that you can't enable/disable.
There is a big forum thread about this but couldn't find it this time. May be you are lucky in search.
