So I am about to move from a VPS to a dedicated server. My hope is that I will see an improvement in performance on the site which has been a little sluggish.

What is the best way to get an objective measurement on whether the site is indeed "better". i.e. faster, quicker page display, more responsive etc. Is there a tried and tested method to get an accurate view. If so I would like to run that against my current server in the next day or so and then again on the new install.
