It would be great, if you had some time to have a look at http://sdms.cafuego.net/, please. This is a simple document management system in php, which is ready. I am not a programmer, so I do not know how difficult it would be to integrate this Simple Document Management System into DRUPAL. It could greatly improve the susability of DRUPAL, and no other CMS has this DMS function. I think it is a hot topic, they began to talks about it on post nuke, etc. but no developments have been made yet. You could be the first one.

PS: Another document management sytem 'embrio' is at http://terracotta.sourceforge.net/philosophy.html, and a third one is http://sourceforge.net/projects/owl/, but I think the first one is the best.

Hmm, SDMS is no longer supported, but there is now SDDMS :-)
