Drupal 7 is a truly revolutionary release that saw both the size and diversity of our contributor community grow exponentially. Through the formation of and strong coordination among the Usability, Accessibility, and Design teams, Drupal 7 addresses a number of our project’s longest-standing limitations and opens up access for more people to enjoy the strong web publishing framework we have all come to love.

Huge congratulations to the community, and everyone who worked so hard to make Drupal 7 the most amazing version of Drupal yet!

DrupalCamp LA 2008 wrap up

The largest single, non-academy-sanctioned, barcamp-style gathering of Drupalistas yet assembled in North America just took place in Los Angeles, CA, and if you weren't there, you missed out! The Happening occurred in the freely donated LA Convention Center, and if you know anything about the convention business, you'll understand that that alone is financially remarkable! Approximately 400 people attended the two day event, and in a manner completely out of the norm for a traditional barcamp gathering, the throngs proceeded to teach and learn in a self organizing plasm!

There were several funny things that happened during the weekend. Random people kept wandering in off the street asking about this mini-conference that looked like it was thriving during a low economic time, and they all wanted to know about the cute little blue guy. One man even approached a presenter and began begging for a job doing something, anything, even though he'd never heard of Drupal but thought that "everyone in here was... cooool". Crystal Williams, one of the co-organizers of the event, lost her car in Valet World on Sunday morning right as the second day's sessions were supposed to be starting. She wasn't onsite yet, and in her pocket was the key to the storage room which held all the Workhabit cameras & audio recording gear, and the hallway projector with the morning's session schedule on it! Nobody could figure out...

Get Drupal in your local Wikipedia right by 9/8/7

drupal in wikipedia 9/8/7 programWikipedia has become a major source of information for many people. Therefor it makes sense to have Drupal listed on all languages that Wikipedia offers. Right now Drupal is listed in 22 languages which is good but we can expand this to even more languages and we can make the current information better. For example, the English entry of Drupal is rather good but still needs some work, see for example the "citation needed".

Some other languages sometimes only have a oneliner or are old and outdated, listing old versions of Drupal. So here is a call to everyone that has a browser and can write in one or more languages: go to Wikipedia, search for your language(s) and start an entry about "Drupal" or make the current one better. Note that it does not have to be limited to the term "Drupal" itself, you can write as well about for example the Drupal Association citing the FAQ.
