I was surfing the net and discovered a high profile candidate for Governor in Massachusetts (the home state for Boston) is using Drupal. I think he just clinched my vote!
We are in need of a new leaflet/pamphlet design for OSCOM, etc. We've run out of the current design, and rather than print a large amount of a slightly outdated information booklets, it has been decided that an entire new design will be made, complete with new text and appropriate screen shots.
The goal is for people to "see" themselves using Drupal. We're calling all Graphics Artists and Wordsmits to look at existing resources and make the best info source any CMS has (we are the best, right? Right!)
The Drupal project has released version 4.6.1 of its open-source content management platform. Drupal 4.6.1 is a maintenance release that provides corrections of problems reported using the bug tracking system. Drupal 4.6.1 fixes a security vulnerability so it is recommended that you upgrade your existing Drupal sites. As the bug is also present in the Drupal 4.4 and 4.5 series, Drupal 4.4.3 and Drupal 4.5.3 have been released respectively.
There are no new features in these installments. For more information about the Drupal 4.6.x release series, please consult the Drupal 4.6.0 release announcement.
Dries and I have been working on a chapter for an edited collection in my field, Computers and Writing. A work-in-progress version of the article has been accepted to and is open to discussion for the Computers and Writing Online 2005 Conference hosted on Kairosnews. The article questions the appropriateness of the term "content management" and discusses Drupal history, its software features, and the Drupal community.
The Drupal ad for the Free Software Magazine, designed by the Drupal community, has been finalized.
As we already reported, we chose Josh Stevens' idea for the ad. However, most people preferred Chris Messina's later variation with slightly different layout and graphics. Because the deadline was approaching rapidly, Chris' version was further improved and finalized not so long ago.
The finished ad focuses on Drupal's variety and large install base by asking the question "What do so many online communities have in common?", to which the answer is (obviously) "Drupal". The background contains a large list of both popular and lesser known Drupal sites to illustrate the point. Read on for a peek at the final result.
Robin Good has published an extensive (93 page) review of group blogging software. He very clearly identifies the features and functionality that is important to group blogging as well as several scenerios where group blogging is used. He clearly understands the field and is in a good position to make meaningful comparisons. His review of Drupal is mostly positive and his criticisms are, in my opinion, very just. It is also important to read his reviews of the other software presented to see what is being done better elsewhere.
