inTERRAgate - Drupal based project launched

Hi Drupal community,

We recently launched a drupal based project - inTERRAgate - and thought we'd drop you a line and let you know - it has the potential to get quite big so could provide some nice publicity for drupal. Site suggestions, critisms, praise are all welcome!

The website is freely accessible at http://www.interragate.info, and provides a framework for uploading natural hazard and risk data at a national level, together with in-country contact details for disaster first-responders. InTERRAgate was launched in March 2007, with introductory information on natural hazard threats in ten of the world’s most vulnerable nations (Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Chile, El Salvador, Indonesia, Iran, Jamaica, Mexico and the Philippines). Like the online encyclopaedia, Wikipedia, inTERRAgate is designed to be ‘owned’ by data suppliers and users, who are able to upload information and influence content. Its ultimate success will, therefore, depend upon registered data suppliers from around the world uploading textual and graphical information to supplement initial data and to expand the country portfolio.

Google announces Summer of Code results; Drupal gets TWENTY slots!

We are thrilled to announce that Google will be sponsoring 20 Drupal projects for Summer of Code 2007. The students, their projects, and the mentors for each are listed below. As the summer progresses, these students will be turning to the community for support and for help testing their work. To keep up-to-date with all of the latest SoC developments, please join the SoC 2007 working group and help out in whatever ways you can.

The projects this year show a strong focus on the core Drupal software and the infrastructure that makes Drupal.org run. For example, the translation, metrics, and RCS abstraction projects all intend to make project management on Drupal.org better in some way. The two core theme projects will help make Drupal a prettier and flashier looking software, and the search project will help make finding things with Drupal a bit easier.

Barack Obama and Drupal!

We just launched a re-design of a political website supporting the Barack Obama campaign: http://www.republicansforobama.org/

The theme is a modification of the garland / minnelli theme (which is a fantastic theme to start from) and the site is running on 5.1 with OG hopefully handling the heavy load of new users broken out by state :)

Please let me know what you think! Suggestions / Comments are certainly welcome - both political and Drupal.

Another New Drupal 5.x site - Gathering of Eagles - TX

opensource.org now running on Drupal

Not sure if this has been posted before (a search in the forums for opensource.org would reveal not), but the Open Source Initiative website (as of 24th March 2007), is now running under Drupal.

This is a big accomplishment for the Drupal CMS and community. We have Steve Mallett to thank, as the webmaster of opensource.org, for using Drupal.
