At first I need to add a link to my own PHP script. That link should be displayed in Drupal's menu.
The script (among others) makes a difference in users and cathegorize them into groups in accordance with $user->uid and my own database. I need to offer each group of users different forum or book to collaborate.
I tried to find some help in Drupal's API. There are many helpful functions. But there are so low-level. I need some like:

I found in the original site www.gworks.ca it's possible highlight active sections, so if I'm in any page in "About us" section, this section in main menu has another color.

I have recently upgraded to Drupal 4.5.3-4 on Debian Sarge and have found that all the links I had in my Collaborative book to pages within the book have broken. I had the links in the format of [page title | link text] and now rather than seeing the hyperlink to the page of that title I just see the actual link text.
