high traffic site - need to build to serve pages fast

Looking to re-design a high traffic e-commerce website. I don't know the details yet, but the site would look like something along the lines of www.victoriasecret.com (in terms of size and categories and such - maybe 1400 or 2400 products)

The problem to be solved - site is slow

Second problem - transfering products from an existing site (Intranet) to the new one we're building?

create user account with administrator verification

I would like to have an email sent to the site administrator (me) when a user attempts to create an account. I thought this was the default behavior, but it is not. I know my site can send emails because I can reset the passwords for dummy accounts using automated email reminders.

adding contributed module - simple question

How do you add a drupal module to a site without restarting the database?

looking for freelancer: experience integrating appointment software into spa website

i'm looking for a freelancer to help me program two spa/hair salon websites.

the tricky part - integrating SAM (industry appointment software) into the site

the sites would be almost identical - looking to be able to quote both clients a competitive price as a result of the efficiencies arising from doing two sites at the same time with almost identical functionality.

timing is pretty loose - 1 - 3 months to complete the project.

please provide 1 - 2 examples of sites you've done using SAM integration.

customizing login process

I am trying to tailor the login experience for the users of my site. I would like to automatically redirect a user, once they log in, to a particular page (the user login block is restricted to one page, http://example.com/login). What's the best way to do this?
