Module development and code questions

Hey Guys,

Was really interested in the PHPTemplate module and it is only out for Drupal 4 (or something similar)

So is there anything like that, but for Drupal 5.x.

As the title suggests, I don't know how complicated this project will be. I think it's more difficult than an hour or two in front of the computer, and we'd have to talk a bit before work got started on it to see whether or not I can actually afford to have this created, but I would at least like to talk to someone about it.

Here is a rundown of what I need done:

As I've mentioned before, I publish three webcomics (http://ubersoft.net) and I'm using Drupal to do it. One of my goals is to make my comic archives searchable -- currently I use Drupal's taxonomy features to make the comic searchable by storyline and by characters (I tag each character that appears in each episode when the comic is loaded into Drupal).

What I'd *also* like to do is make it searchable by the text in the comic itself. Currently there is a service for webcomics called Oh No Robot that allows you to integrate a third party tool into your site where people can transcribe the text of your comic into it, and it creates a search engine you can use to search through the archives. I would like to have that capability in Drupal, and while there are a few ways to do this using a default Drupal setup, they involve giving my registered readers far too much ability to edit the comics themselves.

I need a new module for my new service Panizon. It basically allows for easy integration of the ad code block into a drupal site. I have made a similar module for Joomla! I have never worked with Drupal. Are modules in Drupal similar to Joomla modules?

I'm writing an extension to the signup module, being able to send a web service request based on signups.

The people who should obtain the web service request is the persons in the OG group that the node is posted to.

So I need from the signup module find out which groups the node is posted to and then which persons are in the group.

I know that I can use this from the nodeapi? in the signup module?
