I have been working as a part of a small team on this project ( The Frontlist ) for the last year. I think it highlights what Drupal can do, and how it's possible to create sites that look nothing like 'standard' drupal sites.
The Frontlist concept is simple: new writers post original work to the site, and receive extensive critiques from their peers. Within each genre, all material is rated according to a predefined set of criteria, and will attain a ranking according to the quality of peer reviews.
In effect, it works as a filtering process, to allow work of serious merit to bubble to the surface. At the end of each month, we guarantee that the literary agent responsible for a specific genre will read the top reviewed work. We will also showcase the best work on The Frontlist to provide talented authors with exposure. We do not make any other guarantees to new authors, and we do not climb into any deal that the author may subsequently draw up with an agent. The Frontlist is simply a vehicle for locating new writing talent.
We have just secured a partnership with a three well-respected literary agents who have agreed to read the top reviewed material from The Frontlist. The process is free to authors and agents - all we ask is that in exchange for submitting material, each author provides critiques of up to five pieces of work (provided by us).
