Flyingstartups.com entrepreneur community

Hi

I've just upgraded my website to 4.6, and done a big redesign in the process. The site is http://www.flyingstartups.com, and is a community to support the entrepreneurial readers of my books on starting a business.

My books all have a plug for drupal in them by the way, including the website address, and you can see them listed here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books-uk&fie...

In redesigning the site I must thank Chris Messina for his fantastic Civicspace and Democratica themes. I've kind of hacked them both together to create my theme. They look great, and the special admin theme is inspired. It makes admin so much easier somehow.

There's been some fantastic dev work going on in the last year and, as an observer from the sidelines, I think drupal has made a quantum leap in usability, stability and flexibility in that period. The range and quality of add on modules is impressive, and I will gradually be adding these to my site to expand the service I provide. In particular: the ecommerce modules, trip search, simple_access, subscription, weblink and workspace . And of course just because they've been around for ages we shouldn't forget the gifts to site admins that are: image, img_assist and flexinode.

Thanks to all of the core development team, the module and theme developers, and to the rest of the community for making drupal so great.

Ingoldesstat-finden: A Town Searches For Its Roots

I have already blogged about the new Drupal site I have set up and as I'm very lazy, I'll just paste that here again :-)

I have recently built a homepage (based on Drupal, of course) for quite an interesting not-for-profit project called Ingoldesstat-finden.

Some history background:

A document of Charlemagne (Karl der Große or Charles the Great) from 806 mentions for the first time a "Kammergut" (estate) he owned, namely Ingoldesstat — which later became the city Ingolstadt (not too far away from Munich). Yes, that's the Ingolstadt you know from Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein. Ingolstadt will celebrate the 1200th "birthday" in 2006...

The project:

The aim of the archaeological project Ingoldesstat-finden is to find the exact place where the first settlers of Ingolstadt lived. Some recent findings indicate that the original Ingoldesstat was not where the city center is today...

Planet GForge - based on Drupal

planet.gforge.org is since today the small but official Planet of the GForge community. Initially it was planned to be powered by PlanetPlanet but we ended up going for Drupal. Our beloved free CMS can do the same things as PlanetPlanet, as pointed out in the discussion about Planet Drupal. Also, it a has a web interface to administer the site which is missing in PlanetPlanet.
