After months of development of content and structure, I'm ready to let all y'all Drupalers know about Anthropology.net. See anthropology is the study of humankind, and the study lacked a online portal and community; which I found very ironic. So, I bought the domain and initially set it up as a Wordpress blog (which wasn't enough for me), then a wiki (which was still not enough), until I came around Drupal. Drupal seems an excellent product to further excel the cause of anthropology, primarily because it is community orientated, revolves around open source culture, and fosters & facilitates excellent websites, in my opinion.
I have declared the site's mission statement as the following:
"...to expand understanding and appreciation of humanity by way of creating a cohesive online community of individuals interested in anthropology. This website intends to lead the anthropological community by primarily promoting and facilitating discussion, reviewing research, stewardship of resources, public and professional education, and the dissemination of knowledge for free.
To serve the public interest, we seek the widest possible engagement with all segments of society, including professionals, students, hobbyists in advancing knowledge and enhancing awareness of anthropology... so please pull up a chair, register for a free account, and engage yourself and the community by posting blog entries, debating in the forum, and building up our wiki research resource."
http://www.thinkingpost.net is a new website where we can come together and post articles, editorials links and things all in one website that others can view and make their own comments. Initially you post to your own personal web log that can be promoted to the front page based on moderator and user voting, but we are also looking for actuall story writers that have either regular articles, editorials, etc. that get posted on the front page immediatly.
This site provides english as a second language lessons. Each lesson is based on a short documentary video and and flash files. To view all the lessons, you have to pay, but 3 sample lessons are available for free.
ESLVideo.com is the brainchild of a documentary filmmaker I know. I did the Drupal (4.6) work. Another friend of mine designed the theme.
I decided to check out Drupal 4.6.3 a couple of days ago.. and immediately ported all of my site content to it (not that I had all that much to port). It felt so full-featured.. and it really is. The old site was roller weblogger + jsp wiki. I have to say that I am quite pleased with the results. Sign me up- a new Drupal fan!
In order to allow developers to showcase their websites and share them with fellow Drupalers, we've launched Drupal Showcase. The website allows user to post their websites. People may leave comments or vote on the website. Good as a resource to advertise what you or your company can do with Drupal. Will be adding more features soon. Anyone is welcome, no adsense or any other stuff as such. Just open to the public as another free service by Etopian.
