New private school, public-facing web site :: http://www.lvchs.org/

I've been working on a public-facing web site for a local, private Christian school for a bit and wanted to get the opine of the folks here (since most everyone here is much better @ this then I am).

Site URL: http://www.lvchs.org/

The theme is a *slightly* modified gworks theme. The banner rotation is done with a modified script from http://www.hiveware.com/imagerotator.php.

BlogHer.org beta launch

Early today, BlogHer.org went live beta.

BlogHer is a community site built to serve both as an online resource for the BlogHer Conference 2006 and as a directory to answer the ever-persistent question asked by A-list bloggers, "Where are all the women bloggers?" (Where? BlogHer.org is where!)

This one was a lot of fun to do. The women involved in this community are just amazing and awe inspiring. (A big part of the site is the collective blogging about what women are blogging about all over the world, on all sorts of topics.) I hope some of you will want to check it out.

It would have been wonderful to implement this site in Drupal 4.7, but our timetable was too pressing and our contributed modular needs were too demanding. So the site is built on Drupal 4.6, with several contributed modules, a few module hacks and a handful of php scripts. The theme runs on phpTemplate.

The site is still in beta. There are some odds and ends of code to add, some theme tweaks and so on. And as a community site, it will evolve as certain features prove to be popular while others are asked for. If you find any bugs in theme or function, please let me know (via the "website feedback" form there, or my profile contact here). Your comments are welcome (as long as you're not too brutal).

English idioms web site

This is a community site for sharing English idioms - anyone can post, edit or browse for their favourite regionalisms. This is also a successful port from the MediaWiki platform to Drupal - we're quite taken with the ease of use, documentation and functionality of Drupal as compared to Wiki.

Thanks to everyone who offered support and advice to us in the forums as we worked to get this site changed over!

Druplicon, larger than life

Our beloved Druplicon has been found on many places; on t-shirts, on posters, on book covers, on magazine covers and on flyers. But seldom has our small hero left the paperworld to enter "The Real World". This cool clock was one of the first physical Druplicons I saw, followed by the famous birthday cake. So it made me wonder: why are there so many true Drupal lovers yet not that many real Druplicons? Don’t we Drupalaars like our icon? No, we do! And we need more Druplicons!

Asking around on IRC and mailing people, revealed that lots of people would love to have a Druplicon on their desk, in their car or in their wallet. So here it goes: create a cool physical Druplicon and post a (link to the) picture in a comment. It might be a real pumpkin Drupal style, it might be a Druplicon made of paper in orgami. Or you might want to build a giant Druplicon out of lego like this tux (and buy lots of blue pieces). You could also create a pattern to stich your own Druplicon and have a fluffy beanbag on your desk. I ordered a custom pass from a local bank so I can carry Druplicon in my wallet. Now it is time for you to get creative and create the best Druplicon you can!

Just Goofy about Health simple changes can make Drupal sites more Unique!

Hello Everyone!
Well I have launched 6 Drupal Sites in 60 days!
Some are moving along quite well but I am never satisfied and I spend many of my hours learning backwards. I am truly interested in really coming up with a great theme. I think Occy has a lot of amazing possibilities!!! But let's not forget how healthy that Goofy Theme can be for a flexible and fun theme with great design potential. I have just started customizing my first Goofy site at http://i-am-health.com. This site is new but it will be really fun as we start adding products. I am planning on rebuilding my first drupal site again- http://therockymtnblog.com but pretty much it is going to be a quick theme change. I like that Goofy so much but it needs some improving with the highlighted hover on the links for all those high maintained guests. My greatest problem is I like huge photos on my websites as my clients do as well. I have noticed you really need a fluid site for the ecommerce module, as the products page prefers three columns. -Please correct me if I am wrong. I am pretty busy building websites and making photographs all the time. By the end of February I will be managing 10 Drupal sites and most of them will be running with ecommerce. I think Drupal can build a prettier auction site than e-bay! So if anyone has any input I want to be a great learner. I am also building and managing an Intimate Apparel website located at http://cupids-corner.net and there is also a great sushi website I refer to as my "Green Tea Theme Site" at http://chefsstudiojapan.com. With these sites I almost work for free just so I can learn more about the web and improve my design skills with a computer. Within a years time I hope to be able to help anyone needing help launching and customizing a Drupal Site. But hey the way I look at it is if you are going to learn "Go Live" and have fun with it just start downloading some Drupal!
