Can someone explain how the node architecture works?

I understand there is a nodetype which can be a forum, book etc.

Usually in forum design you see 3 tables: forums, threads and posts.

How does this work with Drupal? Is the node similiar to the 'posts' table that contains the actual body of the content?

I stumbled upon a problem with the terms I use. I'm using a vocubulary with terms for places. Some places have multiple ways of writing (like 's-Hertogenbosch and Den Bosch in my case) so these terms are related to each other. Now, when one user selects he lives in Den Bosch and the other user selects he lives in 's-Hertogenbosch I expect to find both users if i search on Den Bosch (or bosch).

However, I only find the user who selects he lives in Den Bosch. Same goes when I click on the term instead of using the search.

It's possible to have a tree in Drupal 6?
The taxonomy section appear with less options available. Only FLAT taxonomy is in the default installation?

Could any one please tell me if the the patch for using multiple databases (Drupal 4.7.x) has been integrated in Drupal 5.x. I am working with Drupal 5.x and am unable to use multiple database. Could anyone please tell me if there is patch for 5.x available.
