Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

Newbie: General Question and File Repository

I am new to drupal and presently evaluating it for a specific type of web site (the web site for an association of professionals in a certain field). I have installed the latest version and am impressed by Drupal's leanness and apparent stability, but I find it hard to find my way to do some basic stuff. Some more "step by step" tutorials would be helpful. (Without this, Drupal is in danger of being discarded by evaluators just because they did not figure it out how to do the basics.) Any pointers to existing documentation in this field would be welcome.

And here is a specific question:The site should have (among other things) have two menu links to two different download pages. One download page would carry a list of downloadable files for all registered users, the other download page would carry a list of downloadable files for a special user group. The files should live in the file system (not be stored in the database because some of them might be fairly big). The special user group would also have the right to upload files through a friendly web-interface. Preferably (but not necessarily) it should be possible to arrange the files in some hierarchic structure, and to sort them by date and/or name.

Note: I have figured out that the users can have roles (belong to groups). What I have not figured out is how to create the download pages and attribute them to users with given roles.

Sidecontent menagement + Disallowe to publish on index site

I have two questions, and I couldn't find a similar question on this forum. I appologise if it was.

1. I am trying to understand is it possible to alow for every single user's blog to menage their sidecontent on the index site of their blog.

Here is exaple:

integrating banner module and chameleon theme in 4.6.3

I'm trying to edit chameleon.theme to integrate banner.module in with the theme, but am having difficulties.

I've inserted the call just about everywhere and it continually displays the banner at the top of the page above everything else.

For example:

Inline Google Ads & Inset Block

hi ppl, i need to know how do i add inline ads after the node and before the comments thing. I tried inserting ad code in node.tbl.php but then the ads also show up on the listing pages, as well as on frontpage, where i do not want the ads to appear. I only want the ad to appear when the node content is read in full, not in teaser.

Also i would like to learn, how to insert an inset block. What i want to do is insert "Similar Entries" block on the right side of the content, but it should not show up in the teaser. Can anybody here helpme doing this??

Thanks in advance.

Maintaining group id when browsing forums

Hello,

I've hacked up a very basic module using hook_nodeapi() to automatically create a new forum for each new organic group that is created. I've also edited the og_block_details() function to include a link to the newly created forum in the group details block. However, if users click on this link, they get to the new forum but lose the group association. The group details block disappears and I have a feeling users will get very confused.

How should I go about maintaining the group id while browsing through the forums? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Password lost, can't login in my own site

I have lost the password to login to my own drupal installation. Sounds silly, but Mozilla remembered it so well for months that now I have forgotten... and Mozilla too.

This wouldn't be a problem if Drupal could send me a new password, but for some reason it can't because this error message appears after introducing my userID in http://desdeamericaconamor.org/blog/en/user/password
