Post installation

I'd like to have my site users be able to type anything they want into the author field for book and story nodes. But right now, Drupal won't let me submit unless the field is either blank or the name of a registered user. Anyone have any ideas? Am I missing something?

I believe this is the correct place to post this question, but please let me know if I should be putting CVS/HEAD problems elsewhere, as I'm still a drupal noob since Sunday.

can someone help me. I already tried a lot.
I installed the gallery2 - then drupal (with the gallery2.modul). All correct.
I configured the modul and forgot nothing, really. BUT ON DRUPAL I CAN NOT SEE ANY IMAGEBLOCK!

Are the following permissions relevant?

Are there special, necessary, nowhere listed settings to follow?
Like
-both systems in one database
-both systems in different databases with the same user and password
-in both systems the same admin-user with the same password
-anything else

I have a problem with spiders/crawlers getting stuck in loops like these when they try and index my drupal site:

Can You tell me how I can upload different files not only to"files" directory?

Is there some way to allow users to change the book hierarchy? I've got a book I'm collaboratively editing with several normal users who have been granted all the rights under the book module. Is there some way they can change the page weights to re-order the book? I've noticed these users can insert non-book content types into any location in the book using the outline tab - it seems strange they can't set weights in the book itself. As I said, they are all granted the following rights:

create book pages
edit own book pages
maintain books
