Ok, now before anyone tells me there are a lot of other postings out there telling me to have a look at the og mod, simple access, taxonomy control, node by role, and all the rest of them (and yes, I have tried quite a few) I just cant seem to easily be able to do what it is I am trying to do.
For starters, the administration configuration screen only allows you to add/subtract the right of people/roles to edit or administer nodes/blogs etc etc. Why cant we just have one extra one that is simply for viewing the content? To me that would be far simpler and all editable in one place.
So what I want to achieve is (and as simply as possible) make it that only special users see blogs at all, but all the mods I've seen will allow a user to accidently create their blog in the public area. Not what I want. Or maybe that a special group of users are the only ones who can see a particular menu type or section of forums. Of all the mods, it just seems so hard to make sure people do the right thing. I am reluctant to keep loading in new mods all the time because of the potential database mods being made by each one.
So, a big one for me is two fold:
1) Make a page/section so it is only viewable by particular roles.
2) Make it so that particular roles are the only ones to see special menu items within the navigation block.
I'm guessing number two is going to be very hard, so if someone could direct me to a tutorial on how to make a block visible to only 1 or 2 roles, that would almost suffice. But again, I need to be able to be sure that noone can miscreate an item in the wrong place.
Any ideas people?
Thanks in advance, this is really a very informative community! GO DRUPAL!
