Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

How do I alias files, modules, etc for multiple sites located outside of drupal base tree

I have located domain outside of the "base" drupal tree and aliased the sites/aliasedDomain with a symlink. Everything works great except for trying to load files to the aliased domain location such as when changing the default logo in administer -> templates -> Upload Logo.

The files get uploaded to the drupal /files directory and not the aliased.domain.com/files directory. I have worked with aliasing in the Apache httpd.conf file and tried symlinks in the baseDrupal.com directory for the files directory. All to no avail.

strange site5 image poblem

I'm working on moving a domain to a site5 multisite account. I'm trying to get everything working on the new host before I transfer my domain over. This means that I'm working with

http://66.29.79.66/~albertag/

Now for all my images that use relative paths the browser (both IE & FF1.5) seems to be tossing away everything after the ~ in the base URL. This means it's looking for images in

http://66.29.79.66/files/images/

Does anyone know a diff that works on sql?

I am trying to set up a reference site and create an "sql patch" file so that I can just put the sql file into the installer and have it update the database accordingly.

I saved the database after installation, and after I had gone in and fixed some of the inappropriate defaults (eg. friendly paths, path aliases on, certain modules active by default, site name set to $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']) saved again.

I tried windiff but that only produces a useless patch file that has the minimal changes to go from one sql file to the other.

Breadcrumb not showing up

I am using Page type node for creating non content type pages (e.g about us, contact, term of service etc.) and they do not belong to any taxonmy. I don't see any breadcrumb for other pages except the home page. I am using a modified phptemplate based theme. And I have this in page.tpl.php
print $breadcrumb but it does not show breadcrumb when I go to, e.g About Us page. It should shoe Home >> About Us. But it does not show the breadcrumb.

Best practices for path aliases

I'm finally going to use the great pathauto module to update some sites and wanted some opinions on good aliases that are intuitive, will get good rankings, and are easy to remember when possible.

There was talk before that google news won't index sites without a 3 number sequence in the path, http://civicspacelabs.org/home/node/12210, however, a quick check of google news showed this to be false. However every page did have a number in it. I do like the idea of using dates, but any introduction of numbers seems a sure way to keep people from remembering a path--not that anyone verbally shares a url much anymore, and of course major pages should have a thought out path, not one auto created by pathauto.

Browsing some news sites I noticed that many have no rhyme or reason and have links like "article/id=12345567.cfm" while most put the date in there somewhere, usually year/month/day or reverse month and day for non-American sites. My initial thinking is to have aliases like, category/nodetype/title/date for most nodes and perhaps blog/username/title/date or blog/username/category/title/date for blog pages or just use the default system for blogs. Any thoughts?

I've also noticed that several sites use .html in their title, though they are clearly not standard html pages but being pulled from a db. Is there any benefit in still using .html in your pat

Start page for logged in users

I know how to set the default home page for the site, there's no problems there, But I've noticed lately (and I don't know if this has been the whole time or not) but when a user logs in, they are taken to the view of their account screen.

Is this spose to happen?

And if so, I really want them to continue to the homepage. How can I fix this?

Thanks
