Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

i18n and menus

Hi,

I think I dont understand how to use the i18n module. I have a web site with some levels of menus and submenus, which work great in one language, with the i18n module disabled. When I enabled the module, my menus dont work anymore, they dont expand.

And a second thing, when I translate a page, all the administration interface switch to the language. Is this a bug or an error in my installation.

Thank you

Welcome to you Drupal Site still shows after initial account is set up...

4.7

Building site on a server under temp url and after it was ready I set it up under the correct url(DNS kicked in)...its on the same server. Now, anytime I logout it takes me to the Welcome to your new Drupal site. um, the site is set up and pretty much ready to go.

How do I get it to stop doing that?

Seriously, what is a taxonomy?

Maybe I'm missing something really huge here, but I don't actually know what the category module (or taxonomy) are.

I thought I knew, but...

Is taxonomy:
1. A site structuring tool?
2. A way of tagging information?
3. A way of categorising information?

If it's:
1. it does a great job
2. yep, does what it's supposed to
3. can't get it to work the way I want it to....

The set up:
I have stories, pages, and businesses.
I want to categorise the content by area/location, so that people can search for stories, pages or businesses relating to their location.

Content might relate to a specfic town or suburb, or it might relate to a region or state.

I want to be able to ask:

  • who provides the services I want in western sydney(region)?
  • who provides services in the Greater Parramatta area (district in Sydney)?
  • who provides services in Granville(town in GP area)?

So, I have the following structure:
Western Sydney->Greater Parramatta->Granville[C]
where Granville is a category and the others are containers.

I have a you-beaut menuing system that drills right down to Granville (if nodes are tagged with Granville), but how do i select nodes that provide services in Western Sydney (western sydney is a container, not a category)?

How does a business:

  • specify that they service the Greater Parramatta area (it is a container, not a category, and you can't select it)

TinyMCE, flash, valid XHTML

Has anyone managed to force TinyMCE to insert flash using W3C validable code? (eg. like satay method)

I modified flash/editor_plugin.js and plugin_reg.php ($plugins['flash']['extended_valid_elements']) but it did not help - object tag was still being removed.

Issues With Public Registration Settings

I'm working with a clean install of Drupal 4.7 and I'm having an issue with Public Registration Settings.

I would like administrators to approve new users before they can login to the site. As such, I've gone to admin/settings/user and enabled the "Visitors can create accounts but administrator approval is required" selection. Unfortunately, when new site users register they get the email associated with the setting, "Visitors can create accounts and no administrator approval is required" and are granted immediate access to login to the site.

cron jobs... last ran 36 years ago???

i have installed 4.7 about 2 weeks ago and i noticed on the settings for Cron it says:
Cron jobs
Cron is running. The last cron job ran 36 years 20 weeks ago.

is that right?

it seems there is no place to set Cron?

i am very much a newbie so maybe i just have to ignore this or is it important?
