Help with concept of Blocks and Menus

Hello,

I ver much like how, on Drupal.org, you log into the site, and then in the place of the login boxes you see links related to your account and profile. How could I replicate this on my site? Any good resources for block/menu management? I'm used to using a WYSIWYG CMS, and this whole box/menu/weight dynamic is throwing me for a loop. Any advice?

Thanks,
DSC

https drupal site

Hello...

Is there a piece of code I can add to my .htaccess file or some file that will make it so any time a person tries to access a page on http://www.mydrupalsite.com they are brought to https://www.mydrupalsite.com??

And if there is, is this secure sockets? I am asking this because I was told to set up a wiki using secure sockets.

Fileshare module and Books

I am new to drupal and not sure if this is already an answer to this question, but I couldn't find it using the search function.

My problem is as follows:

I have created a book which contains a safety manual. One section of the manual is a series of forms which I have in pdf form and I created a fileshare node using hte fileshare module. My problem is now I want that newly created fileshare node to appear as a section of the book (ie appear in the menu for the book).

Apache2Triad problem

Hi ,

I recently installed, the Apache2Triad 1.5.4 WAMP bundle and I find it to be a security risk..I'm just following on advice in the Drupal book by Packt publishing, which recommends this software package...

Since I installed it yesterday...I have been getting alerts from my antivirus telling me a remote pc is trying to access my pc....What a drag!!

All I want is to test install a Drupal site away from the internet, but now this problem is freakin me...

DreamHost and Mail

Hi, all -

I posted this earlier under "hosting" but there was no reply, so I'm trying it again under "post installation".

My web site is currently hosted on DreamHost. While I'm generally satisfied, I've had a whole string of problems around trying to set up a mailing list/community. Part of the problem is that DreamHost has turned off some PHP for security reasons. Right now I have working versions of both Drupal and CivicSpace on my account. I was hoping that the fact DreamHost advertises its support for Drupal would enable me to overcome the mail problem. So far, no luck.

When I looked at Drupal community comments from last year, there seemed to be widespread problems with setting up mail. The only solution I saw was "roll your own PHP" - I'm just not confident I have the skills for this. However, in the "Hosting 2006" thread, there seemed to be a lot of enthusiasm for DreamHost. I can't imagine that the Drupal community would be that enthusiastic if they couldn't get the mailhandler to work.

Has something changed at DreamHost regarding mail? Is there now something I can do other than "roll your own PHP"? I've been looking for a new web host, but I'd rather just stick where I am if I can get mail working.

Ps. I'd ultimately like to have CiviMail, but the current beta instructions are out of my league.

Thanks in advance for any advice. I'd especially be grat

SMTP mail

Hello,

I just installed the SMTP module and it works great in that the system can send emails when users sign up or forget passwords or what have you..

However, I am curious... how do I make use of this module if I want to write code that sends an email? What functions do I call? I dont see documentation anywhere about this.

Thanks,

JM
