Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

no breadcrumbs when you outline pages

Hi everybody,

I know that breadcrumbs have been giving a lot of people trouble in terms with taxonomy and stuff, but I was trying out creating simple pages, and then outlining them together. So, pages A, B, C (all pages, NOT book pages) were outlined as

A
-B
-C.

Changing strings by hand, translating within module file

I´m translating the strings of the website I´m putting together into my local language. So far I´ve been able to translate all words and phrases that appear to the visitor (not logged in) except two strings that belong to an imported module that I can not find using localization > manage strings > search.

After searching this forum I think I understand that not all modules beyond the core of drupal are supported by Localization but that it can be changed by hand. How do I do that?

Can't install views :(

Using Drupal 4.7.3 and trying to install the latest views module but I get a few problems.

I'm using PHP 4.3.10-16 (maybe this is the cause?)

If I copy the views tar file and untar it into the modules folder and then try and look at the modules page I get nothing back from the server. if I delete the views theme wiard module file it lists all the modules ok. If I look in systems table it's listed there, but no decription. I can't see anything in the php that looks weird (but what do I know)

From a newbie: Probably a very obvious fix for this that I'm just not seeing

I've been familiarizing myself with Drupal for the past week in preparation for launching a college newspaper site, and have been having some mild success ... but for the life of me I can't see how to eliminate the "edit primary links" link that appears in the left column at my test site (e-stadt.com). I'm pretty sure I've scanned the "adminster" possibilities and haven't found a solution (and I'm equally sure I'm missing something obvious, here). Can someone please take two seconds to point out the obvious? It'd save my sanity today.

Site died for anonymous users only ?!

Help!
This morning my site (4.65) suddenly stopped working for anonymous users. Logged-in users can access everything with no problem, but anonymous users get either a blank page, OR the "access denied - login" page .
I've repaired the permissions table (and most other tables) but it's still happening..

any help or suggestions?

H*ly smokes, what a...

Servus, folks.

Glad I got your attention -- and I need a lot of people to tell how great this Drupal stuff is.

Note: If you got here for flaming, sorry, I abused the subject line :)

Well, the story in short: I was left high and dry with my former CMS as the developer got sort of overwhelmed with the amount of bugs I found. Some day he told me he wouldn't want to fix any broken stuff unless I pay prime rate. This was sort of squeezing me into a bad position with some sites due and already negotiated, so he was actually cutting into my earnings.

I thought I might try to fix the stuff myself -- I have some background in programming, but PHP was new to me. His code looked pretty messy at first sight -- neat comments, but hundreds of files with rather wierd names, let alone the naming of functions.

I surfed the net in dispair for the tenth time and somehow I found Drupal. Gee, what an ugly website, I thought, and read some of the forum stuff. I got the idea that the crowd here was higher educated than in other forums and gave Drupal a shot.

Installing on my iBook was a breeze. Heck, I had to dive into the UNIX stuff deeply and it felt like getting under a beautiful woman's clothes. Terminal isn't exactly what I bought when I headed Mac, but still nice to see it's real Unix under the hood... However, I got Drupal singing in a very short time and started to fool around with it. This was some six or seven weeks ago.
