Site Maintenance - Core Update/Upgrade mode

I have just performed my first 6.x-6-10 updates. It went much smother than I thought it would.

Only thing that was a bit annoying was the thing about having to disable all non core modules, especially since I had to go over the module list three or four times, due to not being able to disable some modules because of dependencies, and then re-enable them again after the core update.

It got me to think that it would be nice to have a new option in the site maintenance configuration:

Where do I start to move and upgrade from version 4.6.3

Hello,

I am a complete novice with mysql and drupal. I have spent the last week reading up on drupal and I have done my first install of the latest version and that went ok.

However, my problem is that I have just decided to help out a local kids sports club and they have a website that someone built for them in drupal version 4.6.3

They need to move their site to another host and obviously upgrade it. This is why I volunteered to help out and have been trying to understand drupal to help them out. They are a non-profit club and don't have the resources to pay anyone for this.

I know html and can build static sites with no problem, but I am struggling to take this further.

Here are some of the problems:

I don't know what I should do first. Should I try to install 4.6.3 on their new hosting account and then try to import a copy of the data base? (One problem I see is that I can't use the same database name on the new host as they add a prefix to all database files).

Should I try to upgrade the existing site before moving anything?

I am not sure if I am doing backups correctly?

I have lots of other unknowns but I suppose I don't know what I should do first. I have been thrown in at the deepend and I don't want to tell them I can't help them as it is too complicated.

I would hate to see them lose their site after 3 years of content has been added.

SOS

Just upgraded to drupal 6.10 , i then went on to add and enable the DHTML menu module but i cannot see it under the disabled blocks section, any idea what i need to do to see it under disabled block section.

Upgrading from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6

We have Drupal 5 installed on our site and are looking to upgrade to Drupal 6. I've read through the documentation about upgrading, but all of it talked about upgrading your live installation of the site, which would require some down time.

Updating 6.x-6.10 do I realy need to remove all?

Do I really need to remove all the old files and then reupload the new files? Isn't it enough to just ftp overwrite the existing files with v6.10 to speed up things?

List of Files Changed in Drupal Upgrades to 5.16 and 6.10

Here's a list of files changed by the latest Drupal upgrades. We use this so we don't have to replace the entire Drupal installation, as usually only a few specific files have actually changed.

Files Changed by Drupal Upgrades - simply select the list pertaining to your Drupal installation.

Cheers,
Alex
