Drupal update from 8.4.3 to 8.4.4 with composer fails

Hello,

I ran the composer command below:

composer update drupal/core --with-dependencies

Then, I got this error:

Updating from 8.2.8 to 8.3.x breaks a custom module or theme

When I started I had Drupal 8.1.7 installed and tried to update to 8.4.3 but a 500 error.  So I restored my site back and update to the next incremental minor Drupal security updates up to 8.3.1 where I notice things were not looking right.  My last stable update is 8.2.8 and when updating to 8.3.1 using update.php through the GUI I got a message that referenced serialization and gave me this link https://www.drupal.org/node/2837696.

Updating supporting system files with Composer

I recently learned, with the help of this forum, how to upgrade my vendor and core files using Composer. It's starting to click more each time I use it, but there was certainly a steep learning curve.

I ran $ composer outdated and found the following:

Upgrade from 8.1.7 to 8.4.3

Friends of Drupal.

I'm a novice in this, and even though I'm not young. I want to face this challenge, of course, I need help.

My server is godaddy and the drupal installation was automatic from there. Installatron was used. I did not have to configure the database. The database was created and configured automatically.

The case is that Drupal 8.1.7 was installed and now it appears to me that I must update to 8.4.3.
