phptemplate search form breaks in upgrade to 4.7 beta 2

My nicely formatted search form no longer works under drupal 4.7 beta 2 (it is still there and in the right place, but it no longer submits anything-- bummer). I've tried to actually post the code, but it keeps getting nabbed as suspicious. Basically, the search area, text field, and search button are themed by my style.css.. Any ideas how to do this under 4.7? Any examples? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

upgrade to 4.7b2, undefined functions & clues

moving 4.6.4 site to 4.7b2; did another site on the same server, from scratch, and it worked fine.

with this site, after upgrade, i can navigate admin pages fine.

try to go to home page, i get: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: format_name() in /home/subboy/domains/subboy.net/public_html/themes/engines/phptemplate/phptemplate.engine on line 275

excerpt module for 4.7b2?

does anyone have excerpt running under 4.7b2? I have tried the patches and they don't seem to work. 4.7b2 is so cool that i'd like to move two beta sites over to it, but i can't do it until excerpt is working.

WYSIWYG Editor

Is there an easily installable, free, WYSIWYG Editor for Drupal? If so, can someone leave a link for it?

Theme errors (testing locally)

I'm running phptemplate, I disabled clean URLs cause they would yield white pages on my Debian Linux server. I'm getting these errors when I test drupal locally:

warning: in_array() [function.in-array]: Wrong datatype for second argument in D:\xampplite\htdocs\wizards\modules\forum.module on line 676.
