Is Drupal realistic for adding easy enduser editing to small site?

Hello,

I'm an experienced developer (mainly perl) and have never used Drupal even though I've worked on lots of large corporate sites. Now I need to add a limited amount of content management functionality to a small website of my sister's small restaurant so that she and her husband can easily add and edit menus, and also perhaps add a few other pages.

Now I've been thinking of rolling my own with TinyMCE but would Drupal be useful? She has an existing site (www.michaelsonthehill.com) hosted on linux and I am not going to redo the entire thing but just want to add an edit/preview/publish interface for menus and some other dynamic pages (like a hiring page). It has to allow a nonproficient user to easily use a minimal WYSIWIG online editor to get it done quickly, without confusion or destruction. A rollback history function would be nice too.

The site was originally created automatically as a Network Solutions hosted site, and I always have to go in and edit things by hand.

I've been leaning toward an AJAX style editor using a tree or combobox that has checkboxes to show what is being published, and allow files to be moved between folders; public folders would be linked manually into the static site. I don't need a huge portal, just a minimum. I can use a database like mysql if needed.

If Drupal proves useful and also handles Japanese I might consider it for larger projects in the future, but for now I really just want something simple and am looking for the best solution.

Bittorrent integration

hi there,

I want to integrate bittorrent directly into my website.

I found some code here on the website, but no modul in the project directory.

Is there a bittorrent-modul available or in development?

regards, Paul

Please answer my multi-site questions.

I have three domains, and I wish to go down the multi site route.

My questions.

1- Would this mean these domains and the site will be independent in everywhere as any other site?
2- Do I have to use Addon Domains to make them work?
3- Having three domains running as three independent sites on one hosting account, what would my host say about this? That’s three site for the price of 1!!

Basically I initially (before knowing anything about multi-site) I wanted to have three individual websites, all three running on drupal, on three different hosts.

I want an additional ‘site’ next month (or maybe never)

I'm talking about Multi-site.

But for now I am just installing a standard one-sited drupal today, so can I worry about adding another site to my current site next month, or I’ll either have to install a multi-site now or there is no way to add sites in the future?

So can sites be added or omitted to existing sites with ease and flexibility to create ‘multi sites’, or it’s necessary to set up the instillation as multi sites from the get go?

News and forums

Considering Drupal for our website ... problem is I have a diverse customer base. What I want to do is from my home page have the user select their "core" interest ... from there i can view FORUMS specific for their interest and NEWS specific to their interest. I would like an option so they can see ALL FORUMS and ALL NEWS ...

say do a call like:
news=1 ... would bring up ROAD specific news
news=2 ... would bring up MOUNTAIN specific news
news=all ... would bring up ALL news

Finally it hit me, I want drupal NOW! :)

Sorry, I’m just a bit excited about the prospect of running my own drupal site.

There’s just a tiny obstacle between drupal and I, I'm a total novice and would probably need pictures and diagrams to help me install it. Ok not pictures, but I’m a beginner, so please point me in the right direction, the easier and simpler the instruction the better, :D

I rather install it manually than use fantastico to automatically install it since my fantastico has the old version and it’s not updated.

Ofcourse that would mean more work for me, but I’ll try my best.
