Before you start

Hello, I have set up websites on other CMS solutions but I have heard really good things about Drupal and it seems slick and I would love to try it out. But the real question is will it work for what I want. My objective is to have a website with all my family registered where everyone can upload photos (Gallery will do this in drupal?) and have permission to post blog-like posts to the main page as sort of family updates, and clearly post in forums.

The question i guess is: Is drupal the right CMS for managing 30+ users and sharing content amongst them?

Drupal looks very slick but I'm completely ignorant of it. Here's what I'd like to use it for:

A personal self-aggregation site just like Fimoculous. One section of the page would show my latest "Pontification" (long post), another section would show short linked blurbs in any of several categories (news, media, etc.). Each section would have an archive, but all new content in all sections would be published to the same RSS feed. Comments would be allowed, and I'd obviously have other pages beside the front page, like "About" and stuff.

This is my first post, and my first steps into Drupal, please be gentle ;)

I've installed drupal onto my machine without hassle, kicked its tyres and come to understand the basics. I have a client that wishes to set up site with travel info about a specific region. It will have some more or less static content about the region, city, villages, activities, and also a news section and (most difficult) a site with info about hotels, restaurants etc. let's say 'establishments' The site's contents will only be maintained by the site owners, so it is NOT a community site. Originally I planned to code it all myself in PHP, but a friend suggested I look at CMS solutions. I also looked at Joomla, but searching the web I get the impression Drupal has better quality code, is more modular and more powerful (taxonomy comes to mind)

I have two questions that I hope some people can help me along with. I don't need hand-holding, but pointing me to the right direction (tools, features, extensions to use) would be great. That is, IF drupal would be a good solution.

So:
1. I want to have a search facility with pick lists per category type, so as to make searching easier. Visitors would pick e.g. type of establishment, city, price category, cuisine all via select fields (or only one category to get e.g. all hotels) and then ought to get a list with all matches, preferably with a thumbnail image and a shore description per listing

I'm curious how to go about creating multiple sites now with Drupal 5.0. Once installation is complete, install.php is deleted from the server. Understandable security risk taken care of. But now I want another site on this same Drupal installation and am scared to go re-uploading the install script and running it on the subdomain I specified. I never thought installation was difficult before, so I went to just grab the database schema to install manually and found it flew the coop. What am I to do here?

I went to the homepage and on the right in a green box for Download is: Latest Release Drupal 4.7.3. I downloaded this and unzipped it. I placed it in a file and looked within.
Now here is the newbie, novice part. I looked in the file and looked for what I usually look for in a file which has a program - an executable file of some sort. Usually I would expect this to be a large file but I saw no files above 100 KB. I am beginning to suspect that I installed an upgrade or patch of some type and have not downloaded the actual program.

I'm trying to do a local test-setup for creating a winery list inspired by http://napavalleyvineyards.org (http://drupal.org/node/84707). Please offer some insight on the next questions.
In my setup a winery is a CCK node, including a 'offers tasting' check box.
Q1: How do I display this checkbox in a VIEW tableview?
A winery has many wines (a wine = a CCK node)
