Ecademy, Drupal and the GPL

Is the Ecademy platform available as a white label?

This post would seem to suggest that it is - http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=738 - as well as the fact that the platform is a customised version of the Drupal.

The post suggests emailing julian_bond AT-sign voidstar.com, which I have done and received no reply.

Perhaps other people might like to contact Julian to find out the score.

Drupal for Formal Articles?

I like the community/interactive features of Drupal (blogs and such). But I have yet to see a major/professional/big/quality site use drupal to post "formal articles". An example of what I mean as a formal articles is this:

http://www.sitepoint.com/article/developers-writing-guide

Are there any drupal sites publishing mainly formal articles and not blogs/news? I'd love to learn about how they structured the taxonomy.

Thanks!

URL stability between versions?

As a seo guy, I find that the main problem with open source cms is stability of URLs. Once a page is up, the URL any change in the url is a major problem because all the external and many internal links to that page dont work.

I was wondering if the drupal team has a record of keeping urls stable between versions.

Tips and Strategies for Fighting Trolls

Greetings, fellow Drupal webmasters. I'm getting fed up with the troll bots hitting my site all the time. At this point, by installing the Captcha module and turning off the Trackback module I have not had a problem with them actually getting content onto my site for awhile, but I can see them trying every day, and I'm sure many of them are coming through and scooping up content, email address, etc.

Today I installed the Troll module, which looks like it will be very useful. However, I think we could maximize the effectiveness of anti-trolling measures by working together a bit. Is anyone interested in this? Is anyone else fighting this battle?

One idea I had was that we could share tips and strategies that we have found helpful in using the troll module to keep the bots out. Another idea is that we could compile together observations about how these bots operate so that we can get better at spotting them. Yet another idea I had was that we could share IP addresses that we're blocking so that we can collectively increase our blocking.

To start the sharing off, here is the first one I've added to my Troll ban list: 64.27.27.203. This is a live IP address, and I've seen the following URLs in my Apache logs as a referrer from this IP:

h_t_tp://www.jmhic.com/poker-rooms.html
h_t_tp://www.ua-princeton.com/

(I've mangled the url format so that the troll does not get any credit for the links.) Both of these are poker sites. There are a bunch of other poker-related URLs in my referrer logs, but these are the two that have hit me the most this month. Both of these URLs work if you try to go to them in your browser. A lot of the other URLs I've seen in my logs are gone by the time I try to browse to them.

bug in search?

try to search on drupal.org something that seems a path, like:
/try/to/use/a/path
it gives a 404 error page (and also this is bogus, drupal is able to use custom 403 and 404 error pages, and it doesn't use them for itself!)

Not Found
The requested URL /search/node//try/to/use/a/path was not found on this server.

Apache/1.3.33 Server at drupal.org Port 80

this prevents to search the forum for common errors that could happen using a unix hosting, because that slashes block even LEGAL searches like "/admin/node"...
