just decided -> DRUPAL!

Well, I've been running a hobby website and based upon an article in Forbes:
http://www.spideysenses.com/2006/03/28/it-never-feels-normal/

I've been looking for an open source program to help me make the jump to having a site with similar features to MySpace, Catster, & Dogster.

Where can I switch off primary / secondary links ??

I am looking at a page.tpl.php template and I've found this piece of code wich implies to me (because of the conditional branche) that one can switch on / off the primary / secondary links of a drupal site.. I cannot seem to find where though ? Or does it just mean that I should leave the list empty if I do not want primary or secondary links to appear ? I could also just leave the code out, but that doesn't seem like a clean solution.

php if (isset($primary_links)): <------------------------------------------- Here

$layout variable explanation...

Can anyone tell me what the $layout variable dieso in the page.tpl.php file ?? I am reading the handbook that "his setting allows you to style different types of layout ('none', 'left', 'right' or 'both') differently, depending on how many sidebars are enabled."..

I don't really get it though ... when I comment it out in the template... then the styles of the sidabar are gone!
Can anyone explain this thing to me ?
