IM not sure if i'm either going over old ground here or bringing something for discussion that already exists so please excuse me if either are the case.
So i install drupal and then start adding modules under the version number of my distro, so 4.7 for the 4.7 releases etc, but how do i track new additions to these modules ?
I know you can subscribe to the modules bug CVS page and be informed of any new postings but what about new features of developing modules ? Is there anyway to be informed of such things as they prgress ?
Being that modules do no use version numbers i can't actively see a way to track a developing module when new features are added.
A solution is how vbulletin does things. On vbulletin.org modules are presented in a manner similiar to here at drupal and members can click "install" when they have downloaded and installed that module or plugin. When the author then brings a new version to the table (either with new features or bug fixes) any member who has clicked "install" gets an email from the author with the update feature info and / or bug fixes. This allows the members to keep actively up to date and allows the author to cut down on support questions on issueing he's already addressed.
