Is Drupal right for the task?

Hi,

I wish to just confirm that I have made the best possible choice for the website I intend to build.

Having never used a CMS before I have been exploring various CMSs and I think Drupal is among the best of the Open source variety. Drupal obviously excels at community websites but is it appropriate for more static, informational/brochure type website? I am thinking that it may be more then I need...

The website I am considering using it for is a non-profit website similar to - robinhood.org http://www.robinhood.org. It shouldn't look at all like a community website. No posted comments, no forums or blogs, no authored by/date elements on the pages.

I need to let my client add/edit the sites content mainly the back pages with a WYSIWYG editor -- but the home page needs to be very customized. The number of people contributing will be only 1-3 people.

Other site criteria,l

- A donation link that can process credits cards
- Calendar of events that can post Past, present and future links to pages that may contain photo galleries or information for events and links to buy tickets, other content.
- FAQ
- newsletter, list server
- the ability to collect data through forms that can be later manipuled for mailing list or exported to excell etc.

I have been playing around with an installation of Drupal and some of its modules with some success. But I haven't actually created my own templates yet as the task seems very involved and rigid. This is perhaps my greatest concern.

Adding bookmarks to Drupal.org?

It is quite possible I have missed something, but it would be a time saver to be able to bookmark all the great book-pages and forum threads here at Drupal.org within my drupal account to make it easier to find them again. I, at least, tend to go back to the same pages several times.

So how about enabling the Bookmark module?

Multiple Nodes or Certain Content Type under Primary Links

Hello All. I must first ask forgiveness if I have simply overlooked this question in my excitment in setting up my first Drupal site, but I have been looking over the last two weeks for a way to do the following:

Jabber Module

I just wanted to report that the Jabber module posted on ejabberds site here Jabber Module works fine on my fresh 4.7 install. It only supports clear text logons, and since I only accept TLS I made it listen on port 5221 which I opened for clear text, but blocked it in the firewall (a little hacking in the script, changing 5222 to 5221). This means that I can only use my own Jabber server for logons, but basically that was what I wanted :)

horizontal menu for top navigation

My main navigation for the site i am doing is horizontally. it is something like this:

About Us | Product | News | Reviews | Blogs

Under each link there is sub navigation for instance About Us, i have something like Company info, contact and so on. Once i click that link i would like the sub menu displayed under it horizontally like below for example:

About Us | Product | News | Reviews | Blogs
Company Info | Jobs | contact ...

FileMaker Launched Step One Towards PHP Support

http://filemaker.com/developers/resources/php/index.html

FileMaker has released a beta version of the FileMaker API for PHP. It now allows FileMaker Server to understand commands sent by PHP. This software is in beta form and no support is being given by FileMaker but the fact that they have released it to users and are asking for feedback makes it appear as if someday they would like SQL databases and FileMaker databases to be almost interchangeable.
