Why use a database to store content?

I am not criticizing, just asking.

I don't know anything about designing a CMS. I know that most popular web-based CMSs use mysql or postgres to store content. But, some CMSs, especially the light-weight CMSs, just store content in html files.

Retrieving content in html files seems to be faster than retrieving content from a mysql database. Also, I have known virtual-host mysql servers to get overloaded. Content stored in html files is much more portable since it does not require apache/php/mysql/drupal to access it.

How to edit content (newbie question)

Hi, I'm starting to learn drupal. Have a full install up and working nicely. Being used to enterprise level CMS's I'm trying to figure out how to create a set of templates for pages in the site and how to let content editors manage them.

Create a link

How do you create or put a link in the text of a page?

What would be the differences between a package such as drupal and for instance a commercial CMS package ?

Hi,

As the title says, I am looking for information wich compares open source CMSsses such as drupal to for instance a commercial packages such as delivered by for instance 'crownpeak' ... I am writing a paper on this for me communication studies ... Does anyone know where I can find some information on this ? Or does anyone actually have any experience with commercial packages and are they able to relate the use and possibilities to the possibilities wich a good open source cms packages as drupal provides ?? It seems to be hard to find some info on this ....
