Drupal 7.x

This is a pretty common thing to have.. titles and snippets of news articles.

I don't know how to set this up in Drupal. There's a 'recent content' block, but it shows everything, no snippets and doesn't really have any customization options.

Is there a built in way to do this? Or recommended modules.. or would it be easy to set up using a View? (I don't really know much about views or using them)

i create a layout for display suite and this give me :
The layout selection and positioning of fields happens at .......
but i selected the fields in Views displays.....

If i copy example_layout ... and put in theme , this layout work correctly.

what is wrong?

I resolve: the problem in in view module the field are not correctly...

how do i create more banners for that theme? i see a block "advertise" ...but how can i use it with 2/3 pics rotating?is it possible to use the jQuery Cycle Plugin effects like the one made on top? is there a module for the libraries?

I'm having trouble installing modules and themes through the GUI admin overlay.

I go to "Appearance", click "Install New Theme" and paste in the URL (or browse to the tarball on my computer), and click "Install." Drupal claims that the theme has been installed ("Installation was completed successfully"), but when I go to enable the theme, it doesn't show up in the list. The only way I've been able to install new themes is by FTP-ing them to my site's themes folder.

I have the same problem with modules.

I have a pretty big site (25.000 visitors, who make around 100.000 page views). Many of those page views are because of a script calling and writing data to the database. To make sure it doesn't consume so much data, I put it outside a module, and use database bootstrap:
