Sorry to be a noob but I'm just getting started with our company website.

My issues is: when I click the Edit tab on our About Us page, the Body: (under the button: Split summary at cursor) text box briefly pops up and then disappears and I have nothing to edit. All I want to do is edit the HTML by hand. The re-sizable cursor appears when I hover over the adjustment bar (like at the bottom of the text box I'm typing in now) but nothing opens and I can't find the existing HTML to edit.

I had an old 6.11 site with french translation (not complete) imported. So I updated it to 6.22, then updated all my modules, upgraded core to 7.10 and updated modules to latest 7.x. Then updated french language by importing it again, it worked fine, but when I switched to english, then switched again to french it crashed.
I tried to delete french language in 6.11, then upgrading, and finally importing new language, but again the same crash. Im getting a white screen in IE and a redirection error in firefox

I cant output any error, I only have server logs :

I've been struggling with this stuff for a little over a year. I used to be a C programmer a long time ago, but my fancy web dev skills are pretty shaky at best. I've looked for guidance on my problem, but everything seems to be about creating themes or subthemes and/or writing / adapting modules. For this job, I'm using D7 with a Bartik-based subtheme.

so, i'm running a d7 install and realize that there are many ways to do what i'm after - meaning several modules and alternatives - so i'm wondering if anybody here has specific experience with views fields or views in nodes specific to a typical scenario on my site.
