Date and time passed

I have an event content type. Within the event content type I have the date field. Right now it just shows the date which is fine but once the date passes I want to dynamically show a phrase like "This date has passed".

I've searched all over for the answer to no avail. I've tried many scripts but none have worked. I've made a custom node (node--events.tpl.php) and tried to add both php and javascripts into it. The result is either it will always say "This date has passed" or it never will. Below is an example of a script I've used. Please help me.

Show field on certain conditions.

Hello, I have set a mobile phone field which needs to be completed before posting the node. I would like to ask for that field only to anonymous users or registered users who have not filled that field yet. Is there any what to do this?

Any suggestions on how to approach this?

Why not use SOLR search for all views queries?

I realise this isn't strictly about module development, but it doesn't really fit the other categories as I figured it was quite technical.

At present I am using SOLR with search API and facets to create some search based views. However, I'm wondering if it is a good idea to use the SOLR indexes for all my related views.

It seems faster and it would take some of the strain of the database.

So, any reasons not to?
