Drupal 7.x

I’d like to put the login form in my header region, with the fields displayed side by side instead of one field above the other. I’d also like to put the field labels ('username' and 'password') inside the fields. 

There seem to be a few modules that do this, but I’m wondering if it can be done in the theme instead? I’m using a Bootstrap subtheme. 

Ive read that altering the login form creates problems for CAPTCHA and other modules. If true then I shouldn’t bother trying. 

Can I style the login form or the login block with CSS? I’d really appreciate any assistance. 

Where does drupal 7 log everything if you don't want to use drush, dlog and syslog modules?  

Where does drupal 7 log capcha failures if syslog module isn't installed? 

I dont see them in access.log or error.log.

I'm happy when I use Drupal 7 and not happy when I use Drupal 8. Probably this is mental, but... Do you think it's possible to build and support websites using Drupal 7 in 2018 and so on? It will be hard to find workarounds to live with the 7 in future?

Just wondered if anyone has had any issues install PHP70-zip on Amazon linux? desperately need this for drupal but whatever I install Drupal doesn't detect the PHP zip extension.  Any help appreciated.
