Drupal 7.x

Hi folks, longtime PostgreSQL sufferer -er I mean user.

Attempting an upgrade from 6.20 to 7.0 I get the following errors on my PostgreSQL 9.0.2 database-based site:

Failed: PDOException: SQLSTATE[42804]: Datatype mismatch: 7 ERROR: default for column "data" cannot be cast to type bytea: ALTER TABLE {users} ALTER "data" TYPE bytea USING "data"::bytea; Array ( ) in db_change_field() (line 2888 of /www/drupal/farbot-7.0/includes/database/database.inc).

I decided to start all over on a drupal 7 site, so I deleted my drupal folder and the database, recreated the database, re-extracted the drupal program, set up settings.php. When I go into the setup script, it has me put in the name of the database, user name, password, and although I'm using Mysql, it requires the name of a database file that appears to be something for sqlite. Whatever I do there, leave it alone or delete the pre-existing name, the installation continues until it gets to the install profile.

I am trying to take all my pdfs (mostly books) and organize them. I've decided on using some sort of php implementation but I'm wondering if Drupal would be the right way to go. You can see a proof of concept here:

Is it possible to display certain basic content without having a user logged in to Drupal yet? I would like to display a basic home page and probably one or two additional pages and give a user access to those pages even though they are not logged in yet. How can this be done? Is there a how-to or Wiki?

I using Danland as my Theme, and I have 5 pages setup ...

Frontpage
Page1
Page2
Page3
Page4

These all work find and they are set up to be part of the main menu .....
Now i want to set up page 2.1 and page 2.2, so i go create them and on the menu settings I set the Patent Item to be --Page2. So it would now look like
