Definitive answer for magic quotes

I cannot turn magic_quotes_gpc off.

I have a virtual host, can't use htaccess and can't alter php.ini.

With slightly older versions of Drupal, I could comment out the check in index.php and everything was fine. Now I've upgraded to CVS and slashes are multiplying whenever a post is changed.

At the moment this makes Drupal unusable. There must be loads of other people in the same situation. What can we do?

security whole for includes/conf.php

I have an account, but drupal.org is not allowing me to log in!

I do have a question about the security of the includes/conf.php file. It's world readable and the password to the DB is stored in this file. Other than making it owned by apache and make it readable only by apache, is there anything else that can be done to secure this file a bit more? It's fine the way it is for a system where users don't have shell access, but in a setup where users *do* have shell access, it becomes a HUGE security whole.

Move existing site to new server

I have a drupal site setup on one server. However I want to move it to another server. New domain name, include files in different location, is even in a different country.

Is there an easy way to achieve this without having to start from scratch. As in migrate all content and user accounts.

Regards, Bawdo2001.

News Bundle

I have been messing about with Drupal today, an I like it alot.

I have configured it to import some news feeds from Moreover, this works fine, but when they are displayed the items are very hard to read.

Is there a way to format the way RSS feeds are displayed ?

Thanks

Matt

Slashes in URL's instead of PHP parameters

Ok, maybe I missed this somewhere, but I see all of these Drupal websites and the urls are nice and tidy with /node/add/forum/1 instead of /mod=forum?add=1 or somesuch... So how are people doing this? I'm finding that since I switched to Drupal my blog entries don't get picked up by Google and I suspect its due to the PHP param passing. But I can do searches on Google for topics here on www.drupal.org and can find them no problem but the links are to the nice pretty /'s with no .php?bar=foo type coding.

Problems with upload in Image and Filestore

Hello,

I am having problems uploading files larger than 500 KB in both Image and Filestore-modulen.
When I click Preview, I just get a Page cannot be displayed / Cannot find server or DNS error.

This happens only when filesize is greater than 500 kb.

Maybe this isn't a problem in Drupal, but I am thankful for every advice anyone can give.

Thanks.
