problem with large upload with filestore

I think there is a problem with the filestore module and large (maybe greater than 500KB) uploads. With smaller files, all works fine. But if i try to upload a greater one, i got this message:

Location: /drupal-4.3.1/?q=node/add/filestore

Message:
user error: MySQL server has gone away query: INSERT INTO filestore (fileauthor, version, homepage, filename, filetype, filesize, filedata, nid) VALUES ('', '3', '', 'tec.pdf', 'application/pdf', '1791207', '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 in /home/www/web18/html/drupal-4.3.1/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 90.

Is there any size limit? How can i configure this?

help in getting started: uploading conf.php file (error in syntax)#3

it got cut off again - it said:

You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ?php

please let me know what other information might be useful in answering my question: what needs to be fixed with the syntax?

thank you very much,

what does 'preview form' do?

In Taxonomy administration there's a link to 'preview form'. When I click on it I get page with a dropdown list allowing me to choose a term in the vocabulary. Nothing happens when I change the term. I feel I must be missing something. What's the purpose of this page?

help in getting started: uploading conf.php file (error in syntax)

i am a newbie to all this and learning...

that said, i am following directions on getting started from drupal.opensourcehost.com

i made changes to the conf.php file (under "includes" folder) by putting my info into the following:

$ db_url = "mysql://oshusername_username:password@localhost/oshusername_drupal"; #

in the notepad file and saved the changes under the file menu command.

i uploaded conf.php and i got the following error message from the database admin:

Error

flexible markup permissions for different user groups

Is there a way to configure different markup permissions for different users? For example, I'd like to be fairly restrictive about html tags allowed for content submitted by users, but when I publish new content I'd like the maximum level of flexibility for publishing content, laying out pages, etc. Is there a standard approach that will allow me to do that?

Thanks,

Mac
