htaccess problem - am baffled

okay. I have surfed for a few hours on here trying to find a solution to the problem I'm having with my Drupal installation. I'm not an expert or even a novice and I HAVE tried reading through the numerous posts resulting from a "htaccess" search in the forums. None of the solutions or tips offered have worked.

If anyone can help me out?

here's whats happening and whats been done:

A) downloaded and installed the SQL stuff and uploaded the files+directories etc.
b) couldn't launch Drupal gave me "forbidden to access" error
c) deleted htaccess file that comes with drupal
d) error switches to INTERNAL SERVER ERROE
e) Guessed at a link mysite.com/?q=user which got me in
f) spent a few days setting up various modules and themes - most work okay. database appears to be working fine.
g) When I click on the HOME button on my drupal installation it gives me INTERNAL SERVER ERROR ditto when i try and access mysite.com/drupal/index.php from the browser.

My Server Software is as follows:
Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux)
Chili!Soft-ASP/3.6.2 mod_ssl/2.8.14 OpenSSL/0.9.6b PHP/4.1.2 FrontPage/5.0.2.2510

Have followed some of the tips in the forum and I get the impression that the root cause of my problems is the htaccess file - I'm on a shared/virtual server so I don't have access to the php.ini file. Which leads me to believe that I need to do something with a htppd.conf file.

Moved server -- almost working but not quite

I needed to move servers with my Drupal installation.

I have it just about working, but not quite. :-(

Drupal comes up, has my templates and content on the front page. But if I try to do anything like login it tells me page not found such as http://www.valuesplanet.com/user/login I thought it might be a permission thing but that does not quite seem like it is it -- maybe a database issue? This is the CVS version from 4.3 I belive.

Any thughts?

Server error 500

Hi!

I just installed drupal, but when I try to access the URL I get "Server error!" - Error 500. I know it's something wrong with .htaccess (I'm using the one coming with drupal tar) because if I rename it, I can access Drupal (then it doesn't work because it can't connect to the MySQL server, but that's another story).

My server runs Apache 2.0.46 (Unix), PHP 4.3.2
MySQL is the last version, but it's running on another machine.

What do I have to change in the .htaccess?
I already changed "" in "" as stated in the comment, but nothing changes. :(

What the big secret with image.module-4.4.0?

Environent:
WindowsXP Home version
Apache 2.0.47
Php 4.3.3
Mysql 4.0.18
Drupal 4.4.0

Hello everyone,
A few days ago I posted a question about image.module-4.4.0. After well over 100 reads without a single response, I can reasonably assume that A) noone knows the answer to my question or B) noone cares. Being an optimist, I'll assume the former and rephrase my question...only this time I have a few days of solid configuration attempts and spent hours under my belt for those who like to see you bang your head against the wall a few times before they share their wisdom with you. Here it goes: I have installed ImageMagick-6.0.0....it works from the command line best as I can tell. I can pull up images with it...except the Jpeg which is in the ImageMagick images file. I have image.module-4.4.0 installed...everything path wise is fine....no jhead though as the install does not mention it and no GD library as I have ImageMagick. When I go to upload an image and hit preview I cannot see either the picture or the thumbnail. There is only the box with the red x in the middle. When I hit submit I get:

warning: rename(./tmpthumb_dc3adabb7efe88ae26a804e45cc8d245.jpg,C:/images/thumbs/thumb_dc3adabb7efe88ae26a804e45cc8d245-26.jpg): No such file or directory in C:\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\modules\image.module on line 719.
Cannot save image.

Yet when I go to the "images" and "images/temp" file....boom...the picture is there...but still no thumbnail in the "thumbs" file. I realize that the same questions may get asked more often than is wanted, however, I HAVE TRIED to get to the bottom of this. ANY suggestions from ANYONE would be APPRECIATED. Did I miss a patch...am I misconfigured....do I need other software? What is the big secret? What am I missing?

I have a different db name and password....how do I modify the php files to connect to the db?

Hello and thanks in advance:

I have just ftp'd the files but the host has already created the db for me and the password and hostname are different:

Which files do I have to modify to reflect those changes.

Thank you for your time.
Regards

page not found

I am trying to install drupal. I created the tables by copying them from database.mysql and pasting them into Nifty Telnet. (This is the only way I know how to create tables.) My server space is a student account on a university server. I already have a mysql database (that is not called "drupal".) I changed the $db_url in conf.php .

When I try to log in to the site, I get "Object not found!"

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
