Installing Drupal

Hi,

the Drupal scripts on the server are not executed with the user rights of my account. That requires that all the files on the server have the permission mask 404 set. (I would prefer 400.) This is extremely unsatisfying since simple http access to e.g. modules/forum.module shows the contents of that file. When I change the permissions of the files, the site does not work at all. When I use .htaccess to require a user a login dialog pops up.

I set up a Cron Job on my host which runs /cron.php every hour. I now get these e-mails:

Hi. I'm making a drupal website now on my webserver. A couple of days ago, I installed PHPTemplate and two themes (civicspace and friendselectric). The primary links worked fine on both themes until recently. The first sight of the problem was when I tried to edit the primary links and then submitted the page to save the changes, the page simply reloaded without saving my changes. The old primary links is still there. I thought the problem was with the cache system or maybe with clean URLs (pardon me if this is wrong - I'm not a programmer) so I disabled both.

I have never hooked a site up to a cms before and am having a whole lot of trouble getting it to work or really even understanding the documentation. I never professed to be a tech genius. I can't even figure out how to get into the admin system.

This is a big topic I know but can someone help me at least get started?

Just a quick question really, does drupal work with mysql5 as the database server? I've managed to get it installed but have run into a few problems along the way. I'm running drupal 4.6.3 with php 5.0.5.

i'd successfully setup few drupal sites on local server and also on some hosting servers with no problems.

now tried on another server,
fresh install drupal 4.6.3 on a server.
what could be the cause for this:

any idea?
