Layout issues - header backgound image & slideshow block

Hi,

I'm building a zen subtheme for a school. I'm having a few layout issues:

1) I'd like the header backgound image to expand across the whole screen. This is the current code:

/** header **/

#header {
background: #fff url(images/header1.png) repeat-x top left;
height: 100px
}

2) I've used View Gallery to create a slideshow block. The block is 960x240 pixels. I'd like it to sit below the primary menus, which I'm planning to make into drop-down menus using either Nice Menus or Superfish. Currently the content below the navigation block is cutting off/overlaying the slideshow block.

3) I'd like the Site Logo, Site Name and Site Slogan to be vertically centred within the Header block and inset from the left.

Sorry if these are basic 'noob' questions, but I'm only just starting out with Drupal.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rob
