Confusing statement on module home page

You have this on the module's home page:

This module is a work in progress, but stable releases as well as development snapshots should always be functional. Download and use of the available development snapshots is encouraged as long as we reach a stable 1.0 release. However, be sure to run update.php each time after you have updated the module.

I am confused. Does this mean 0.x releases are stable enough for production use?
