Despite the listed policy, Drupal Planet has an inordinate number of marketing and job offer posts. Either clarify the policy to include marketing posts and job offers, so that all people can advertise their services and products aimed at the readers of Drupal Planet... Or deal with people using Drupal Planet as a marketing platform.

I've checked the first two pages and think I disagree with your blanket statement.

The article on pantheon pricing may be a bit borderline, but as I understand it pantheon is of onsiderable interest to many Drupal people.

CAn you point out any specific articles?

The policy does not say anything of considerable interest is exempt. It says
"No press releases."
"No hiring announcements."

If you want to amend it to say no press releases or hiring announcement unless they are of considerable interest... then do that.

There are a number of mentions of book releases, which would be pr. A few weeks ago someone posted something about wanting a job. Essentially the stuff you mentioned comes off as "Oh I am having fun" and perhaps some people find that relevant, I don't know. It just seems blatant marketing from which I don't think many people learn very much, other than how to buy in... because it is not specific to Drupal, but only to their specific product or interest and the end goal is to get people to buy their product or hire them or come work for them..

1. Melaby, you are using a brand new account. You may be an older user, but right now you're pretty much just a troll.

2. You're using a disposable email address. That's grounds for blocking your account.

We don't have the time to moderate every single post. If there's something specific, let us know.

That's a great little ad hominem attack and you have completely failed to address the issue. If it is the case that marketing and p/r posts are allowed then say so... If they are not, then say they are not. Don't write one policy and then use it to favor people that you like. But yes, specifically the issues are with any posts which are marketing proprietary products to readers of Drupal planet, Drupal planet has become home to that, now is that okay and good... and if it is then update that page to say that. If not, then make an announcement telling people that it is not okay to talk about how cool the new thing they are selling is.

1) blocked user melaby for using a disposable email address

2) added devnullmail.com to the deny part of the access list

3) there is no actionable item here. Purely promotional activity is still not allowed, but I can find anything wrong with announcing e.g. a book.
In any case: if you think that a specific post is in violation of our rules or that a particular planet feed is a source of such items, please open an issue mentioning the post and the feed. Everything else is tedious and is a waste of time.

just came across this issue via a google search a bit randomly. I"m not looking to troll, but I think the poster wasn't completely off base. They might've used a temporary account so as to avoid potential backlash. More frequently posts on the planet feed do seem to be veiled or indirect marketing efforts.

Recent examples:

It probably wouldn't be out of line to review the policy and/or do a little policing to keep things in check.

FWIW I posted the thing about Pantheon getting funding. Obviously I'm biased, but I think that qualifies as "Drupal news".

I think this is a won't fix as well. After a quick glance over those posts, I don't see anything immediately concerning. They are posts of interest to the community, which is what planet is supposed to be. The planet guidelines are just that: guidelines. There is a certain amount of judgement involved in publishing something to planet, and I believe that the blog authors have exercised that judgement: those posts are reasonably interesting to most of the community.

Another one has come out today, this is a blatant ad and provides no other valuable info to the community other than the services that Pantheon provides.
