I am having trouble getting a custom theme to be recognized by views slideshow ddblock. I am using the 6.x-2.x-dev version which lists this feature...

"Slideshow theme detection: Detection of available slideshow themes to choose from in configuration page."

However, I cannot get any theme I download from http://ddblock.myalbums.biz to show up in the view settings following the documentation listed on the same site, which I believe applies to the ddblock module, not views slideshow ddblock.

First, where are the themes supposed to be listed in the view settings in 6.x-2.x-dev?
Second, what are the files supposed to be named in the template folder? I have tried several different names, but nothing seems to work.
Third, is there a good tutorial or documentation geared toward building custom themes for views slideshow ddblock?

If I can get this working I would be glad to write up some documentation on d.o.

Have a look at the issue http://drupal.org/node/921842

1.) Slideshow themes for the ddblock module are not compatible with views_slideshow_ddblock module.
2.) You can find the themes in the style settings of the view. (select slideshow for the style and then go to the configuration settings with the "gear" image behind the style settings.)
3.) Filenames can be found in the issue mentioned above.
4.) There is no other documentation yet then the tutorial on http://ddblock.myalbums.biz, the readme.txt file in the module and the mentioned issue.

Several themes from the ddblock module are ported and some new layouts are available.
