Is TinyMCE a defunct project? I imagine this support/feature request is VERY strait forward, yet I'm not sure where to look.

No, it's not defunct, a new version of this module was released just two days ago.

The "new" release isn't really new. I added an "official" release so that updates show up for update_status users and so that we could start making some changes and getting feedback on those changes with the dev version.

... TinyMCE + Code Filter?

I've added "code" to the filter's (so the list is, Paragraph, pre, h1-h5, code), yet TinyMCE strips the "code" tags out if edited in 'original mode' or doesn't format if I select code filter. Help... ;-X

This version of TinyMCE is not supported anymore. The issue is closed for this reason.
Please upgrade to a supported version and feel free to reopen the issue on the new version if applicable.
