I like the simplicity of this approach. Is there any way to add CSS or a theme to the map - so I can customize the color of roads, land, water, etc.?

I doubt it... This is just using Google maps. I don't think Google Maps supports theme changes, because I believe the underlying map images are fixed tiles that are downloaded from their map server.

If I'm wrong and they do support this, then you should be able to find some documentation on Google and add the desired CSS to your theme and it will work. I suggest searching the Google Maps documentation for more information, keeping in mind that this is just using an iframe embedded map and not the full Google Maps JavaScript API.

Came across this while researching this module for a map on the contact page.

Download the CSS Injector module and use Firebug or similar to inspect the classes. Use CSS Injector to make modifications. Pretty simple to do.

The problem is not injecting the CSS -- you can do that in your theme anyway. The problem is that I think Google Maps doesn't support changing its map colors etc. via CSS. I believe the maps are made up of image files in tiles, which you cannot change the color of.

Check this out! it will actually help you style maps. I am trying to figure out how to implement with this module.

You can also go through this information:

That appears to be part of the the Google Maps JavaScript API. This module does *not* use the Google Maps API, it just uses Google Maps' embedded map functionality. If you want to use fancy styling and the Google Maps API, you will need to use a different, more complicated module, such as
https://www.drupal.org/project/gmap
not this module.
