Sections behaviour erratic

I'm running sections.module with 4.6.3 in a subdirectory while I develop the site. I have sections configured to load a different theme for the admin section using

admin
admin/*

It works fine...sometimes. There doesn't seem to be any pattern evident, but it kicks back to the default theme every so often. Sometimes it just gets stuck and no amount of reloading will bring up the proper theme. Other times it loads the default theme once and then goes back to the admin theme.

I realize it used to say that sections.module has problems in a subdirectory. Is that still the case?
