Since this module takes over any clicks in any part of the content, links don't work. Needs some way to get around this so uses can still choose to either edit or follow a link.

how about adding an icon or another tab to the $tabs menu to toggle in-place editing?

Yes, I think we are going to need a switch somewhere to enable/disable editing.

I'm wondering whether there should be bigger plans for reviser - #930698: Plans for reviser and if so then that switch would need to be somewhere more global and instead of being the switch to open the editor it would be a switch to turn on the editing functionality (it could also hold of saving changes until you hit save - allowing to edit, see what it all looks like and then save when its ready). The admin module supports a pluggable/extensible architecture which you can add admin functionality to a page. Although it would also be good not to depend on too many external module - maybe this could be achieved by having various options and picking the best one based on what else is installed/available.
